THE 2021 BAFTA’s are nearly here, with the award ceremony opting for a new strategy of multiple hosts over the course of two days.
This year’s hosting duties will be split between Dermot O’Leary, Edith Bowman, Clara Amfo and Rhianna Dhillon.
Who is Rhianna Dhillon?
The opening night of the first ever two-part BAFTA’s will be hosted by the all female presenting duo of Clara Amfo and Rhianna Dhillon.
Though Amfo will be familiar to many courtesy of her stint on the recent series of Strictly Come Dancing and her slot on Radio 1, Dhillon may need an introduction to some.
A long-time film critic, Dhillon has often appeared on The Film Show, a British film review television programme that was brought to an end in 2018.
She has also entertained the role of BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra’s film critic, meaning she has already worked in close quarters with Amfo, her hosting partner come Saturday evening.
As a film buff, she has long had an affiliation with the BAFTA’s, hosting the academy’s official podcast – The Guru Podcast.
Does Rhianna Dhillon have a partner?
Rhianna’s boyfriend Mike Muncer is also a film reviewer, the pair host a podcast together called Back Row.
Mike also regularly features on Rhianna’s BAFTA-sponsored The Guru Podcast.
Mike boasts a podcast of his own, entitled The Evolution of Horror, described on the show’s site as: “A weekly podcast in which Mike, the host, explores the history of the horror genre by delving into particular sub-genres across several weeks.
“Each episode Mike is joined by a different guest: a critic, filmmaker or expert, to discuss a particular film in depth, to look at it’s place within a sub-genre and it’s impact and legacy on cinema history.”
What has Rhianna Dhillon worked on?
Most recently, Dhillon has been named as the host of Amazon Prime podcast Wrap Party.
Dhillon also previously hosted BBC podcast Seriously, in which she was tasked with taking stories from a number of different authors and making them visual.
She has also spoken of her enjoyment at hosting a podcast with her boyfriend, claiming: “The podcast I make with my boyfriend Mike means I spend a lot of time watching films, and that’s great.
“We review loads of new movies, but we also watch older classics such as The Shining and The Night of the Hunter. It’s so much fun to rediscover those films – and watch some I probably should have already seen.”
Much of Dhillion’s work has been tied in with radio and podcasting, with her most notable television appearance coming in The Film Show, though her Amazon Prime podcast Wrap Party is available to watch as well as listen to on Prime.
