CHANNEL 5’s Our Yorkshire Farm follows husband and wife duo Clive and Amanda Owen, along with their children, documenting their day-to-day life.
Each episode documents a different season in the farming calendar, with all nine children pulling their weight to help their parents ensure the farm runs smoothly.
Who is Amanda Owen’s husband Clive?
Clive lives on and runs one of the most remote farms in Britain, despite coming from a non-farming background.
Though very little is known about Clive personally, details of his relationship with wife Amanda are well-documented.
He first met Amanda at his Ravenseat farm in 1996 and said he was “very taken with her”.
Amanda, just 21 years old at the time, was sent to Ravenseat on a work errand.
It was there she and Clive became friends before slowly blossoming into romance.
Clive, 66, is more than 20 years his wife Amanda’s senior – aged 45.
The couple reside at the farm, which is located just under four miles west of Keld in Swaledale, Yorkshire Dales.
What does Clive Owen do?
Clive is a first generation farmer, and has been living on the farm for more than 25 years, despite having no prior experience.
The show has showcased Clive at work ever since it first hit screens in 2018, there is always work to be done on the 2,000-acre farm owned by Clive.
The family were first featured on the ITV series The Dales and later appeared on Ben Fogle’s Channel 5 show New Lives in the Wild.
Ralf Little currently narrates all the goings-on on the farm, which at certain points in the year is open to visitors, even offering cream teas to anyone confident enough to make the lengthy trek to it.
How many children do they have?
The couple have nine “free-range” children, who all roam the Yorkshire countryside and do their bit when it comes to working on the farm.
There is a large age gap between some, with the oldest, Raven, now at university and the youngest, Nancy, still a toddler.
The couple’s nine children, in descending order of age, go from the eldest, Raven, 18, Reuben, 16, Miles, 14, Edith, 11, Violet, nine, Sidney, eight, Annas six, Clemmy, five, Nancy, three.
Amanda often shares cute pictures of the family on her Instagram profile, and explained her parenting style to the Radio Times, where she said: “The snowflake generation, they can’t do anything.
“They don’t know anything about how to look after themselves, or a work ethic, all of that has gone out of the window. It’s our fault as parents.
“If you put your child on a pedestal, with no sense of independence, and think you have got to entertain them the whole time, what can you expect?
“I rebuff swaddling children, because I want to see them go on and do well and be themselves, whatever that is.
“I feel like it is their life and all I do is prepare them.”
Here’s what we know about them:
Raven is the eldest of Amanda and Clive’s brood – and has ambitions to be a vet.
She headed off to study at York St John University after gaining three Cs in her A-levels.
Raven was praised by her mum for looking after the little ones.
Raven told the programme living with such a large family meant she didn’t get much peace but always had somebody to try out new hairstyles and dressing up with.
Oldest son Reuben always showed an interest in mechanics and after passing his GCSEs started an apprenticeship.
He was seen on the show mending tractors and making dog kennels – ably assisted by his younger brother and constant shadow Sid.
Miles has the job of looking after the chickens on the farm.
And the teenager is a great helper with his younger sister.
Miles wants to follow in his parents footsteps and be a farmer.
Edith, 11, and Violet, 9
As the middle daughters Edith and Violet are the best of friends.
They are often seen on the show helping out on the farm together, with Edith helping out with the lambing.
Tomboy Violet also gives a hand with the shearing.
Sid really looks up to older brother Reuben and became his budding apprentice.
Despite being trained by Reuben to learn mechanics, Sid wants to be a farmer.
Annas, 7, Clemmy, 5, and Nancy, 3
The three youngest all pitch in around the farm.
When the family first appeared in Ben Fogle’s 2015 show, Nancy was not yet on the scene.
The 2021 season of the show saw Clemmie, who her mum gave birth to in front of the fire on her own, start school despite the pandemic.
