WHEN a warning symbol flashes up on the dashboard as you’re driving, your first reaction is probably to panic.
And you wouldn’t be alone as research revealed more than half of Brits aren’t sure what most of the symbols actually mean.
A study by HPI found 59 per cent of drivers struggle to recognise what all the warning lights on their dash indicate.
Worryingly, 96 per cent couldn’t recognise a common brake issue light – potentially putting them in danger.
A similar percentage didn’t know when their diesel particle filter was showing a fault, and 93 per cent wouldn’t know when they had a problem with their coolant.
As car technology develops and more features are added, there’s inevitably a higher chance something could go wrong.
And with over 60 different icons telling you there could be an issue with your motor, it’s important to have a good understanding of what your car is trying to say.
We have broken down what all the symbols that could pop up on your dash actually mean.
