THIS is the chilling moment a dad told cops that he killed his baby – while his hands were still covered in blood.
Denis Beytula has been jailed for life for stabbing his three-week-old son Andrei Stefan to death and trying to murder the baby’s mum in Portland Close, Wallsend, North Tyneside, in October.
The 27-year-old grabbed the knife and attacked the helpless baby, and then repeatedly stabbed his partner Andreea Stefan, 21.
The murderer was jealous of his baby – who he saw as a rival for his partner’s affections.
After the attack, Beytula left the flat and she called emergency services.
On the 999 phone call, Beytula duly admitted: “I just killed my baby and my wife.”
With blood still on his hands, the monster was arrested after he committed the murder.
His two victims were transferred to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, where Ms Stefan recovered but baby Andrei died days later on October 6.
Beytula was sentenced to life imprisonment at Newcastle Crown Court today.
CONTROLLING AND JEALOUS
After Beytula, who is from Bulgaria, pleaded guilty in October, Detective Chief Inspector Dave Cole, of Northumbria Police, said: “This was a truly horrific assault that rocked an entire community and even now it is difficult to comprehend how Denis Beytula could commit these offences.
“His victims were both completely innocent and they were two people he was supposed to love and protect – he betrayed them in the most violent of ways.
“It is tragic when any life is taken away but it is particularly distressing when that life is a beautiful baby boy and I know that has had a profound effect on the wider community.”
Ms Stefan, the 21-year-old manager of a Domino’s pizza outlet, survived despite her injuries and released a statement to say how she had been under her partner’s control.
The couple met at the end of 2018 and Andrei was born in September.
Beytula controlled his partner, making her feel insecure and stopping her from having friendships outside the home, the court heard.
His controlling influence got worse after Andrei was born, and a detective who worked on the case said Beytula grew jealous of the attention she needed to show to the newborn.
Detective Inspector Graeme Dodds said: “He saw him not as a son, in a loving fatherly way, he saw him as a rival for Andreea’s affections.
“Because of that jealousy and selfishness, he killed Andrei and tried to kill Andreea.”
Paying tribute to the boy’s mother, who is from Romania, Mr Cole added: “She has been a pillar of strength throughout our investigation and I just want to take this opportunity to praise her for her incredible bravery at what continues to be a very difficult time.
“Andreea fought for her life and, because of her determination, she is alive today to see this man put behind bars, but what happened that day will stay with her for the rest of her life.
“Her world will never be the same again but we will continue to offer her all the support she needs so she can try and begin to move on with her life.”
