A MOTHER whose nine months pregnant teenage daughter was killed in a family gun massacre has told of her grief as she prepares to bury her and her unborn child.
Kiara Hawkins, 19, was only days away from giving birth when she was murdered along with four members of her boyfriend’s family in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Sunday.
A teenage boy is said to have unleashed a hail of bullets – killing his parents and two siblings – after his dad yelled at him for going out of the house without permission.
He also shot Kiara Hawkins, who was still alive when police arrived at the 4am bloodbath.
She was transported to Eskanazi Hospital, where she and her unborn son died.
The father of Kiara’s baby lived at the house but was not the gunman, a friend told DailyMail.com.
Her mother Rhonique Hawkins told of her anguish following the “senseless act of violence”.
She told the Mail: “Kiara was my first. Everything she taught me made me the woman and mom I am today,”
“I love and miss her dearly.”
Rhonique also set up a GoFundMe fundraising page for her daughter and grandson’s funeral, featuring a photo of Kiara cradling her baby bump.
She wrote: “My daughter Kiara and unborn grandson (BabyK) was taken away from me due to a senseless act of violence.
“I was not prepared for anything like this to happen.”
The other four people who died were identified as Kezzie Childs, 42, Raymond Childs, 42, their son Elijah, 18, and their daughter Rita, 13.
A seventh victim, another son aged 15, ran down the street despite suffering a gunshot wound and called 911, a police report obtained by FOX59 states.
He reportedly identified his older brother as the shooter, and told cops: “He killed my entire family.”
A suspect, 17, who was not identified due to his age, was arrested on Monday about 25 miles away in Plainfield.
According to the younger brother, the older teenager flipped after dad Raymond scolded him when he came home late after going out without permission.
Raymond said he would be punished later – and then mayhem erupted.
The surviving brother said he heard gunfire upstairs, and his sister screaming “he shot them” before more shots rang out.
The shooter “came down the stairs with a draco gun, a handgun that shoots rifle rounds, and started shooting,’’ the brother said, according to a police report.
He fled into the street, followed by his brother who fired after him as he ran, the report states.
The younger brother, who was taken to a hospital in critical condition, is expected to recover.
Indianapolis police chief Randal Taylor said on Monday the department had delivered on a promise of “swift justice for this heinous act”.
“While removing the alleged perpetrator of yesterday’s mass murder from our neighborhoods does not bring back the lives senselessly lost, hopefully, it will bring us one step closer to healing as a community,” Taylor said.
Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett on Sunday said the crime was “not a simple act of gun violence” and also called it a “mass murder”.
Marion County prosecutors have until Thursday to file charges against the teenage suspect.
He is expected to be charged with murder or intentional manslaughter with a handgun and attempted murder in an adult court given the severity of the crimes.
