Man stabbed and skinned his neighbours’ four dogs to ‘make himself a doggy coat’ – The US Sun

A MAN has been arrested after allegedly stabbing and skinning his neighbours’ four dogs to make himself a coat.

Kentucky State Police responded to a call after Jonathan D. Watkins, 38, from the town of David, came to the home of a neighbour covered in blood on December 23.

The neighbour asked Watkins, who had come to ask for a cigarette, what he had been doing, to which Watkins is reported to have replied: “I’ve been skinning dogs.”

The neighbour told police he initially did not believe Watkins, who he knew to have a history of mental illness, but that he later walked past Watkins house and saw what looked like four animal skins on the front porch.

He then realised his two dogs were missing, and believed another neighbour’s two dogs to be missing as well.

A state trooper responded to an animal cruelty complaint at around 3pm, the Courier Journal reported.

The trooper asked Watkins to leave his front porch to speak in his front yard, and as Watkins did so saw a large hunting knife in a holster on Watkins’s belt as well as blood on his clothes.

When asked why he was covered in blood, Watkins is reported to have replied: “I’m making myself a doggy coat.”

Asked whether he had killed his neighbours’ dogs, he said: “Yes. There isn’t anything wrong with me making myself a fur coat.”

He then added that he had “stabbed them in the head with my knife” and thrown “them over the hill after I skinned them.”

The trooper then found the corpse’s of the dogs of a hill next to Watkins’s home.

Watkins was arrested and booked into the Floyd County Detention Centre.

He has been charged on four counts of torture of a dog with serious physical injury or death and two of tampering with evidence.

Floyd District Judge Jimmy R. Marcum ordered Watkins held without bond, and he is also to undergo an examination at the Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center.

The case is scheduled to be reviewed on January 24.
