THE mother of a 15-month-old girl who has been missing since last year claims the child’s grandmother took the infant to a campground.
Evelyn Boswell was last seen sometime in December, but she was not reported missing until last week.
Evelyn’s grandmother Angela Boswell and her boyfriend William McCloud were taken into custody in North Carolina, and are being extradited to Tennessee.
Both of them are considered persons of interest in Evelyn’s disappearance, and have been charged with vehicle theft.
Mother Megan “Maggie” Boswell, who said her family identified as gypsies, revealed that she told investigators that her mother took Evelyn to a campground in Mendota, Virginia.
“My mom took her to a campground in a silver camper and if they don’t go tonight, I’m going to go find her myself, because I’ve told them and they’re not really like taking it seriously,” she told WJHL.
Officials in Tennessee’s Sullivan County told the station they checked the campground in Mendota and “nothing” was found.
Maggie Boswell told the station that her mother was babysitting because she had to work.
“Well, she’s my mom,” Maggie Boswell told WJHL.
“I wanted to trust her … well, I called her and was just like, ‘Oh, she’s safe like, you know, that kinda thing, and then she started threatening me, which like I said, I’m not gonna get into everything she threatened me with …”
Authorities have said that Evelyn was last seen on Dec. 26, but the young Blountville resident might have vanished a few weeks before that.
When asked about their lifestyle, Maggie Boswell told the station that gypsies “are not a cult.”
“They have been asking people if there is like a Gypsy ringleader and like … I mean like we’re not ringleaders, we’re not like out here kidnapping babies, or anything like that.”
Investigators said last week that they received conflicting accounts from Evelyn’s mother, who explains that she was just trying to “protect” her own mom.
“… Maybe in hopes, ‘Oh well, she just tell them where Evelyn was, ‘but obviously she’s not going to.”
She had revealed last week that she knew who abducted her daughter, but she would not reveal the identity of the person then.
“Well the reason I didn’t report it or anything was I knew the person who had her, and I didn’t want them to run away with her,” she previously told WCYB.
Evelyn’s mom posted photos of her child on a Facebook account belonging to “Maggie Wood.”
“She is the sweetest baby you will ever meet and will smile and want to hug you when you see her,” she wrote.
An Amber alert for Evelyn was issued last week.
