TWITTER users have been joking that black people will get superpowers on December 21 due to a planetary alignment.
Some have also joked that the Mayan civilization made a mistake when predicting 2012 as the end of the world but really meant this year due to the planets.
What are the Twitter jokes about superpowers?
A Twitter user started a false rumor that black people will obtain super powers due to the Great Junction, which is when Jupiter and Saturn will closely join in the sky.
The planets will appear as a bright star and many stargazers have regarded the astrological event as the “Christmas Star” or the “Star of Bethlehem.”
The Twitter user spread the fake rumor on the site writing: “As black people, genetically we are stronger and smarter than everyone else, we are more creative, on December 21 our real DNA will be unlocked and majority will be able to do things that we thought were fiction. Learn who you are as people, they wanna make us average.”
Surprisingly, the tweet went viral quickly after it was posted with many making fun of feeling different upon waking up on December 21.
One user wrote: “I…… I think I feel something…”
Another added: “just woke up from my sleep i kinda feel it kicking in #December21st.”
A third user said: “We was singin I believe I Can Fly at my 5th grade graduation and look at us now FLYING #December21st.”
What did the Mayans say about the end of the world?
The Mayan civilization predicted that the end of the world would occur June 21, 2012.
However, Christian evangelist pastor Paul Begley believes that the ancient civilization made a mistake and meant the world would end on December 21, 2020.
Pastor Begley said: “Of course, the Mayan elders said [June 21] could have been the end of the world. They might have made a mistake.
“And they made a prediction if this wasn’t the end of the world, certainly my birthday will come again.
“December 21, 2020, during the great conjunction when Jupiter and Saturn come within 0.1 degrees of one another and create the brightest star in the skies since the star of Bethlehem.
“It will be the closest Jupiter and Saturn have been since 1623 and it won’t even come that close again for another 500 years.
“So this is so rare and it’s going to be on the winter solstice.
“It’s going to be on December 21, 2020. The Mayans now reorganize and say this could certainly be the end of the world as we know it.”
There is no evidence to back up these claims.
Coincidentally, December 21 marks the start of the Winter solstice, which is the shortest day of the year.
Winter Solstice refers to the Earth’s pole being at a maximum tilt away from the sun.
The sun will travel the shortest path through the sky, meaning that there will be a significant reduction in daylight.
What did Twitter users say about the Winter Solstice?
In addition to the superpower tweets, Twitter users joked about the end of the world during the Winter Solstice writing: “Happy Winter Solstice. After today the days get longer, leaving you more time to work and do chores and wonder why we’re on this planet.”
One user added: “It’s the end of the world and the shortest day too smh.”
However, some decided to see the positivity in the Winter Solstice because it means that it’s a season closer to summer and brighter days.
A Twitter user said: “Today is the shortest day of what feels like the longest year. Starting tomorrow, every day gets a little longer and brighter. And January 20th, will be a turning point. Happy new year everyone. #WinterSolstice.”
One added: “The darkest hour is just before dawn” After today light will conquer darkness #WinterSolstice #Midwinter.
