Earn 50% more points
American Express didn’t pick this card’s name out of a hat. You actually benefit if you use your card every day. When you make 30 or more purchases in a billing period, all those purchases will earn 50% more points. It’s an interesting feature that you won’t find with most credit cards. Terms apply.
That means up to 4.5 points per $1 at U.S. supermarkets, 3 points per $1 at U.S. gas stations and travel purchases through American Express travel, and 1.5 points per $1 on everything else, taking the card’s rewards rate from good to outstanding. Terms apply.
New Card Members can earn 15,000 bonus Membership Rewards points. You receive this welcome offer once you spend $1,000 on purchases within the first three months of card membership. While not the largest welcome bonus you can find, the low spending requirement makes it attainable for most Card Members. And of course, you’ll earn Membership Rewards points on all the spending you do to earn your bonus, making it all the more rewarding. Terms apply.
0% intro APR
For the first 12 months, all eligible new purchases have a 0% intro APR, after which your regular 12.99% – 22.99%, variable will apply. Although that’s not the absolute longest offer on the market, it still gives you a year to pay off purchases with no interest charges. The offer doesn’t apply to balance transfers, however, so you’ll need to explore other options if you want to transfer a balance and get a 0% introductory interest rate. (see rates and fees)
Point redemption options
Since this card earns American Express Membership Rewards points, you’ll have a couple of great ways to redeem them. The best option is to transfer your points to an American Express travel partner, and that includes a large number of airlines and hotels. If you transfer your points wisely, you could find an award booking where you get well over $0.02 per point.
Even if you can’t find a transfer opportunity for the travel you want, you can always use the Pay with Points feature on American Express travel. This lets you book a cash airfare ticket using your points, and you’ll get $0.01 per point when you do. Terms apply.
