Guaranteed Time Slot Renewal Process to be Delayed
Seattle Community Media has made the decision to delay the Guaranteed Time Slot Renewal Process until October. This affects you if you are a member producer with a guaranteed time slot.
Why the delay? We are working to shift the SCM website to a new server. We want to avoid making a lot of changes to the data, which is what occurs during the Time Slot Renewal Process, during this shift.
We also want to be sure the site is running soundly before making massive changes to the data.
How will this affect you? There will be no change to the current time slots. Also, you may have noticed a limited number of time slots left for you to schedule into. We will be changing the "year end" to October 31, 2015, so you will be able to schedule as usual once we complete that process. We should have that change completed for everyone by July 10. Please let us know if you do not see a change after that date.
We will keep you posted as we approach October regarding the process, but it will likely be similar to years past, with the "new year" beginning November 1, 2015.
What is the Guaranteed Time Slot Renewal Process and why does it happen? Public access channel operators are encouraged to have time slot renewal periods to allow for new producers to have what might be considered "better" time slots that otherwise might only go to long term producers. Some public access stations change quarterly. We believe that growing an audience is important and only renew the time slots annually. We usually start this process at the beginning of July and start the new "year" August 1.
